ATLANTA · GEORGIA · A LIVING ARCHIVE

Before Georgia became a production capital, we built the foundation.

Honoring the craftspeople, crew members and filmmakers who pioneered Atlanta’s motion picture industry.

01 / THE MISSION

The people who made an industry possible.

The Atlanta Legacy Film Foundation is a living archive of the men and women who built Georgia’s film and television industry.

They worked in a vastly different era when productions were fewer, technology was more hands-on and mechanical, and success depended on deep craft knowledge, adaptability and long-standing professional relationships.

Institutional knowledge passed directly from one professional to another through mentorship, repetition and shared experience. That generation established the standards, problem-solving culture and reputation for reliability that later made Georgia an attractive destination for large-scale production.

Remember

Honor the people, stories and shared experiences at risk of being lost.

Recognize

Acknowledge the generation that established Georgia’s production culture.

02 / A LIVING LEGACY

The work continues through the people they inspire.

Members of the Atlanta Legacy Film Foundation remain active influences on Georgia’s filmmaking community.

Through mentorship, encouragement and the example of a lifetime devoted to their craft, they continue to pass hard-earned knowledge to younger filmmakers—and help preserve the collaborative spirit on which Atlanta’s industry was built.

Their experience reaches new generations through organizations including the Georgia Film Academy and IATSE Local 479, as well as through personal mentorship and the relationships formed on working sets.

They teach more than technical skills: they convey the resourcefulness, professionalism and mutual reliance that sustained Atlanta’s early production community.

In doing so, they ensure that the industry’s remarkable growth remains connected to the people and values that made it possible.

Our reunion was a joyful return to the smaller, close-knit community that once defined filmmaking in Atlanta. Friends and colleagues gathered to renew old bonds, trade stories and remember those no longer with us.
